Location: Nepean Sea Road, Mumbai
Area: 700 sq.ft.
Typology: Residential Interiors
Project Status: Completed
A part renovation of the guest quarters in an old, family bungalow in South Mumbai done in conjunction with Uttam C. Jain Architects & Planners. The design process involved not only re-visualizing the space but also restoring key features of the house. The exquisite Minton tile flooring was cleaned and restored. The Burmese teak windows and doors were painstakingly refurbished by scrapping off multiple, layers of paint to reveal the beautiful wood.
The entrance unit in the Bedroom designed as a sequence of solids and voids along the expansive wall creates a multitude of usages and is yet a restrained addition to the space.
In the bathroom a touch of colour is added with hues of turquoise and mocha, handmade tiles accentuating the shower space contrasting with the sedate, ivory marble. While the addition of cheerful, yellow tiles animates the pantry.
